Why knowing your “why” is vital for a powerful website

In this article, I will share with you why it’s important to know your WHY for creating an effective website.

You might think that branding is only for big corporations, but branding is also important for a coach.

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been coaching for years or have just started your practice, creating a personal brand is important for a coach as it helps you to stand out amongst others and creates trust and credibility.

It’s what separates you from the rest and makes you unique.

When it comes to creating a website, it is vital that you know your “why”. This will be the foundation on which your website is built and will help you to create content and design features that reflect your brand and attract your ideal clients.

As a coach, it is YOU – the person – who represents your business. It is therefore essential that you present yourself in a way that demonstrates confidence and professionalism.

As a coach, your website is one of your most important marketing tools. Often, it’s the first place potential clients go to learn more about you and your coaching business.

People who come to your website will form an opinion about you and your coaching based on what your site communicates.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure your website is reflective of your brand. Your website should communicate who you are, what you stand for, and what kind of coaching you provide.

And this is where branding comes in.

The four questions to consider when creating a personal brand identity are:

Who, What, How and Why

Today, I want to talk about the Why.

Your “why” is your purpose, your mission. It is the reason you do what you do. It is what drives you and motivates you to continue doing what you love, day in and day out.

When you know your “why”, it will be easier to make sure your website is in alignment with it. Your website should reflect your values and share your vision for what you want to help your clients achieve.

When you are clear about your “why”, it will be easier for you to create content that resonates with your ideal clients and helps you to attract them to your website.

Sharing your Why on your website is powerful as it helps to create a connection with people who resonate with your Why.

Then you will attract those clients to your practice who resonate with your Why. They will feel understood. They will feel that you are on the same wavelength. They will trust in you and your work and know that you are the right coach or therapist for them.

Simon Sinek (author of the book Start with Why) says that “the goal is not to do business with everybody who needs what you have. The goal is to do business with people who believe what you believe”.

Many businesses make the mistake of starting with what they do rather than why they do it. But if you want to create a lasting, thriving coaching business, it’s important to start with your purpose.

When you start with “why”, you connect with your clients on a deeper level. You’re not just selling them a product or service; you’re selling them on an idea. And people are far more likely to support and buy from businesses that they believe in.

Think about the brands that you love and why you love them. It’s probably because they stand for something bigger than just their products or services. They have a mission and a vision that speaks to you on a personal level.

If you want to build a lasting coaching business, start by finding your “why”. Once you know your purpose, everything else will fall into place. Your marketing will be more effective, your clients will be more loyal, and your coaching business will thrive.

Knowing your Why will inspire more readers to become clients.

And not only does having a clear and strong Why attract more clients to your practice, but it attracts the right kind of clients to your practice – those who you are meant to serve.

How to find your Why

Contemplating the following questions will help you discover your Why:

  • Why did you start coaching / your therapy?
  • What motivated you to start your practice?
  • What drives you?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What about your coaching or therapy practice do you love?
  • What problems do you want to help your clients with?
  • What’s your motivation for resolving these problems?

Once you’ve answered these questions, your Why should become clearer to you.
