Tutorial: How to submit a blog post to the Google Search Console

In this article, I will share with you how to submit pages and blog posts to the Google Search Console.

If you want your blog post to appear in Google search results, you’ll need to submit it to the Google Search Console. The Search Console is a free tool that allows you to submit your site’s URLs for indexing, and also provides valuable insights into how your site is performing in Google search results.

Before diving into this topic, I want to check with you that you’ve already submitted a sitemap to the Google Search Console (GSC). Submitting a sitemap is important.

If you don’t know how to do this, then have a look at my tutorial which explains how to submit a sitemap to the Google Search Console.

Is it necessary to submit new pages and posts to the Google Search Console?

You might be wondering whether it’s necessary to submit each new page or post to the GSC if you’ve already submitted a sitemap.

If you’ve submitted a sitemap, then eventually Google will find and index all your pages. Google crawls your site periodically and will so discover any new pages. Eventually, all pages will be indexed by the GSC if you’ve submitted a sitemap.

However, in my experience, this can often take a long time – especially if you have a new website or your website is not well connected to other sites.

Therefore, I recommend that you submit your new pages and blog posts to the Google Search Console. In this way, Google indexes your pages quicker which means that they will show up more quickly in search results.

Use the URL Inspection tool to submit individual URLs

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to submit your pages and blog posts to the Google Search Console.

  1. Log in to the GSC
  2. Select ‘URL Inspection’ from the menu on the left
  3. Enter the name of the URL that you want to have indexed by Google
I recommend that you open the page you want to submit in a separate tab and then copy the URL and paste it into the GSC. In that way, you can make sure that you get the URL spelling correctly.
  4. Select ‘Live Test’
Google will now run a live test to check whether the URL has been indexed.
  5. The GSC will then show you that the URL is not indexed
  6. Select ‘Request Indexing’
  7. Google will now add the URL to a priority crawl queue

Once your post has been indexed by Google, it will appear in search results within a few days.

If you’re not already using the Google Search Console, I highly recommend doing so – it’s a valuable resource for all website owners and can help you ensure that your site is performing well in Google search results.
