Why you’re not getting traffic to your coaching website (and what to do about it)

10 March, 2024

Are you struggling to attract visitors to your website? You’re not alone.

Many coaches find their websites falling short in traffic, even after months or years online. You’ve poured time and effort into building your site, yet it still feels like it’s invisible. Without visitors, it’s difficult to convert them into clients.

Sound familiar? Let’s dive into some essential steps to help boost your website’s traffic, increase your visibility and get more people through your virtual doors.

how to get more traffic to your coaching website

Essential steps to boost your website traffic

1. Submit your website to Google

Google is the most widely used search engine, but if your website is new, it may not yet be indexed, meaning it won’t show up in search results. To make sure Google knows your site exists, submit a sitemap via Google Search Console. I have a guide on how to submit your website to Google, which walks you through each step to ensure your site is recognised.

2. Optimise your site’s SEO basics

Basic SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is a must for each page on your website.

Here’s a checklist to get started:

  • Descriptive page URL: Make sure each page has a URL that reflects its content.
  • Compelling page title with keywords: Titles should be catchy and include keywords.
  • Keyword-optimised meta description: Use enticing meta descriptions with keywords to encourage clicks.
  • On-page keywords: Naturally integrate relevant keywords within your content.
  • Alt tags for images: Provide alt text that describes each image for better accessibility and SEO.

These steps will improve your website’s search engine rankings and make it more appealing to visitors.

3. List your site on coach directories

Start by adding your website to coaching directories that are well-regarded and relevant to your niche. Many people actively search these directories when looking for a coach, as they provide a convenient way to browse professionals in one place.

Being listed in reputable directories not only increases your visibility but also helps build trust with potential clients who rely on these platforms for recommendations.

Google also values quality over quantity, so focus on directories that are reputable, cater to your audience and align with your coaching niche.

4. Start blogging to drive traffic

A blog serves two purposes: it showcases your expertise to potential clients and boosts your SEO.

Google rewards websites that provide valuable, relevant content. Consistent blog posts give Google more content to index, helping you rank higher. Each new article can act as an entry point for clients searching for topics you cover. (Remember to submit each new post to the Google Search Console to speed up indexing.)

5. Get active on social media

Social media is a powerful tool to drive traffic to your site. Choose a few platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and focus on sharing your content and connecting with potential clients.

Here are some ideas:

  • Facebook: Create a business page and join relevant groups.
  • LinkedIn: Join groups in your niche and participate in discussions.

The key is consistent, meaningful engagement. The more active you are, the more likely people will be to visit your site.

6. Consider Google ads

If you’re looking for an immediate traffic boost, Google Ads can place your site at the top of search results. You bid on keywords that your potential clients might use, allowing your site to appear prominently.

While Google Ads can be an effective way to attract clients, they do require an understanding of bidding strategies to avoid overspending.

7. Join relevant forums and discussion groups

Participating in online forums and groups allows you to connect with people who may benefit from your services.

Look for groups where potential clients gather and contribute to the conversation by sharing insights and expertise. Most forums allow you to include a link to your website in your signature. Over time, this can build your reputation and bring more visitors to your site.

8. Advertise your website online and offline

Consider expanding your reach with both online and offline advertising. Online, you can use Google Ads, Facebook ads or directory listings (many of which are free). Offline, you can place ads in local publications, distribute business cards or use flyers with your website URL.

Advertising requires a budget, but it can significantly increase your visibility and drive more traffic to your site.

Ready to boost your website’s traffic?

Building a strong online presence takes time and effort, but with each step, you’ll attract more visitors and, eventually, more clients. Remember, steady, consistent action leads to long-term results.
